I’m planning to study in France, do I need a visa ?
Depending upon your nationality and your length of stay, a visa may be required.
You do not need a student visa to study or do an internship in France if your native country is part of the EU or EAA.

I’m staying more than 3 months for my studies
If you are not a national from the EU or EAA, you must apply for a student long stay visa. This is necessary to study or do an internship in France.

You have the possibilities to apply for the Long Term Visa used as Residence Permit or the Temporary Long Term Visa (VLS-T)
The Long Term Visa used as Residence Permit
There are 3 types of long term visa. Depending on the nature of yours studies and your level, you must apply for the right visa.
| The student VLS-TS | Its for students who study at bachelor’s and master’s level. |
| The Talent passport VLS-TS | Its for students who study for a doctorate and beyond. |
| The internship VLS-TS | It’s for student who are doing an internship in France. The internship must be a part of the studies you are enrolled for in your country of residence. |
The Temporary Long Term Visa (VLS-T)
With the VLS-T, you can stay in France for 1 year,
It can’t be renewed, and it doesn’t grant the same rights as the VLS-TS.
But what is the advantage to apply for a temporary long term Visa then (VLS-T) ?

With the VLS-T, the formalities are simpler because you don’t need to apply for a residence permit at your arrival. It’s practical for students who plan to stay in France for a year. They must return to their country of origin to study after this period.
I’m staying less than 3 months in France
If you are not a national from the EU or EAA, you must apply for a student visa. This is necessary to study in France even if your stay is less than 3 months.
There are 2 types of short term visa. Depending on the purpose of your stay, you must apply for the right visa.
| The short stay for studies visa( ou court séjour pour études) | For instance, if you come to study for a short period at university or in a school. |
| The student in competition visa (étudiant concours) | For instance, if you are convoked by a French institute for an exam or interview. |

Please note that nationals from certain non-European countries do not need a Schengen visa. This applies if their stay does not exceed 90 days.
