I’m from outside the EU, can I use my current driving license during my studies ?

Students can drive for the duration of their stay without exchanging their license.

According to french regulation, some requirements apply to everybody :

  1. The license is valid and does not have any endorsements, restrictions, or suspensions.
  2. You are above the French least age for driving the vehicle category (e.g., 18 for cars)
  3. You are in compliance with any legal medical restrictions ( prescription glasses…)

Students from the EU or EEA can drive in France using their foreign driving license.

What happen if I want to stay and drive in France after my studies ?

You must  get a French driver’s license.

Depending on your nationality, it may be possible to simply exchange your foreign license for a French license.

If your country doesn’t have an agreement with France, you may need to pass a theory or a driving test.
