I’m from outside the EU, can I use my driving license in France ?

A driving license from a non-European country is valid for 1 year from the date of normal residence acquisition. This excludes a British license issued before 2021.

According to french regulation, some requirements apply to everybody :

  1. The license is valid and does not have any endorsements, restrictions, or suspensions.
  2. You are above the French least age for driving the vehicle category (e.g., 18 for cars)
  3. You are in compliance with any legal medical restrictions ( prescription glasses…)

What happens after one year ?

You must apply to exchange your non-European driving license for a French one if you are moving to France.
