I’m planning to spend my holidays in France, will I be covered if I get sick or injured?
Depending upon your country of residency, a private healthcare may be required.

I’m from the EU
You can apply for an European Insurance Health Card (EHIC) in your country of residency before travelling.
- Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland citizens are eligible for an EHIC card.
The European health insurance card is used during a temporary stay in a member State other than the member State of insurance, whatever the purpose of the stay (business or non-business) or the cardholder’s status (employed, retired, unemployed, student, etc.).
Will I be covered at 100 % with the Ethic card ?
The answer is NO. To be 100 % covered, you must have a private health insurance.
Depending on the nature of the care received (Dentist, surgery…) and the status of the heath institution which provide the care, the coverage with the EHIC card may vary.

To be eligible for coverage, make sure that the health institutions are registered with the French healthcare system. Verify that the health professionals are also registered.
You can find a directory that lists the registered institutions. It also lists the health professionals. You can visit this link (only in French): http://annuairesante.ameli.fr/

Before traveling, you must check with the social security organization of your country :
- Verify a possible healthcare coverage while you are abroad.
- Understand under what conditions this coverage applies.
It is advisable to have a private insurance. This should guarantee the coverage of the medical expenses you would incur on French territory.
